Window guide

Aluminum and hybrid windows

Commercial durability and hybrid exterior cladding — only with a thermal break in a Canadian climate.

What to know

  • Bare aluminum conducts heat; residential use needs a thermal break.
  • Hybrids pair a vinyl or wood interior with an aluminum exterior.
  • They are common on commercial and contemporary residential work, not typical bungalow replacements.

Thermal break or skip it

Pure aluminum is a heat path. In a Canadian winter an unbroken aluminum frame will condensate and feel cold even with good glass. Thermally broken aluminum and hybrid windows (vinyl or wood interior, aluminum exterior) exist specifically to keep the look without that penalty.
